In-School Mentoring

All it takes is one hour per week…kids image

Mentors
In-School Mentoring matches an adult volunteer (Mentor) with a child (Mentee) in a school environment.  Mentors come from all walks of life: married, single, retired, with or without children.  There is no financial commitment to your Mentee. The most precious gift you can offer is your time and friendship.

Mentees
Mentees are elementary school students, aged 6 to 14, who, through encouragement, could realize their full potential by learning to feel good about themselves.

How it Works
After filling out a questionnaire, there is an application process to match you with a Mentee that fits your profile.  Of course, both of you must agree to the match before your first meeting.

Designed to fit into your fast paced lifestyle, matches meet for 1 hour per week, during the day, from September to June.

Schools make a suitable space for matches to meet and we provide “tickle trunks” full of games and activities for you to use.  Or, you can play in the gym, bake cookies or work on the computer.

Training & Support
Our Caseworker guides all Mentors through the orientation and training they need to develop healthy and positive relationships with their Mentees.

Benefits
Building a positive new friendship strengthens a Mentee’s self-esteem and school performance and provides Volunteers with the chance to re-experience the adventure of childhood.  By simply listening, talking, being yourself, and having fun, you will help your Mentee improve his or her self-confidence, self-image, academics, and personal relationships.
