Go Girls!
Go Girls! is a fun and exciting program for girls ages 12 to 14 that is run by Big Brothers Big Sisters. The program’s goal is to help young girls keep up a healthy and active lifestyle during their adolescent years. Go Girls! is lead by BBBS mentors and runs in schools for seven two-hour sessions.
By participating in a variety of activities and discussions, girls learn that being healthy and active can still be fun. Some topics include self esteem, healthy eating, body issues and exercise.
Schools in selected cities must apply to receive the Go Girls! program. Students in Grade 7 and 8 are then chosen by teachers to participate.
BBBS chooses female mentors who have a passion and excitement for healthy and active living to deliver the program.
Go Girls! was developed in 2001 in partnership with Ophea, the University of Toronto Centre for Girls and Women’s Health and Physical Activity and the Nutrition Resource Centre.
