Callum & Dennis at the 2011 Bowl for Kids' Sake event in Bowmanville!

‘Tis the season for giving, and we’re so proud to share that one of our matches has reached out to build an ice rink for a deserving family this Holiday Season! Callum and Dennis, who have been matched for five years, teamed up with Lance Brown of CTV News Toronto to help with this project.  The build will be featured on tonight’s news during the sports segment!

Tune in to CTV News tonight, December 22nd at approximately 6:35 p.m. to check them out.

Dennis has been a loyal volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarington for over 18 years and has been a Big Brother to three boys. He and Callum love to build cars in their spare time and even assembled a donated bike for one of our Littles.

Way to go, guys! Your generosity has touched many lives!

What a busy fall it’s been! So much has been going on here at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarington.

We’ve officially changed our name to “Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarington” to fit with our national branding standards! We’re excited to join our fellow agencies with a new, cohesive brand.

We also had a fabulous time at our Red Carpet Gala that took place on November 5th at the Clarington Beech Centre. Chanterelle’s Bistro served up a delicious meal and all of the guests had a great time. With their help, over $29,000 was raised for the children’s mentoring programs we offer! Thanks to all of our participants, donors and sponsors for making it an evening to remember. Click here  to check out some photos from the event.

We have launched our Holiday Celebration Campaign for the second year in a row and kicked it off at the Santa Claus Parade on Saturday, November 19th. Thanks to Tim Hortons of Newcastle, we were able to hand out hot chocolate and Timbits to the spectators. Check out photos from the parade! We also celebrated the season with an awesome Celebrity Server night at Boston Pizza in Bowmanville on Monday, November 21st. Thanks to everyone who came out to dine with us! We raised a total of $175.97. Thanks Boston Pizza! Check out photos here!

BBBSC will also be out at the Moonlight Magic celebration in downtown Bowmanville the night of December 2nd. Come visit our booth before the tree lighting ceremony, grab some hot chocolate or one of our beautifully decorated Christmas Ornaments! Our BIG Idea:

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarington is committed to delivering the highest quality volunteer-based mentoring programs to the children of Clarington, so they can grow to become positive, contributing members of our community.

We also believe that it is important for our “Littles” to pay it forward and give back to the community that is giving so much to them.

81% of “Littles” agree that their “BIG” has taught them the importance of helping others. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarington would like to help facilitate our “Littles” civic engagement by providing them with a mode of transportation to be able to start something in the Clarington community.

Our goal is to have the children visit retirement homes and spend time with residents, clean up and do yard work for people who are unable, volunteer at food banks, tidy up our community, plant trees, help out with community projects as well as think of their own ideas to give back to the community that loves them so much.

The problem is that the geographic area of Clarington is very large; therefore it’s not easy for our “Littles” to get to the BBSC house to participate in agency/community events. If we remove these transportation barriers it will give our “Littles” the opportunity to fully participate and give back to their full potential.

We are in need of a van for transportation in order to help our “Littles” achieve BIG goals! A van would provide the children in our agency with an opportunity to utilize their increased capacity to care for others and give back to their community.

When you create possibilities good things happen…

Please help us start something today by voting for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarington!
